Why do Frankie & Cleo need a new home?

My decision to put Frankie and Cleo up for adoption comes from a place of profound love. As a co-founder of a cat rescue organization, I believe pets are family. When I rescued Cleo and Frankie in 2018 and 2019 respectively, from the streets of Bahrain, I made a lifelong commitment to care for them and I have done my absolute best to honor it. I spared no expense or effort to make them as happy as they made me and, after battling with health issues, Frankie is now the healthiest he has ever been. Despite this huge success, my personal circumstances are hindering his full recovery from Pica. I have tried to find solutions to my limitations but I can no longer deny the fact that I am unable to give Frankie a safe and joyful home.

I have not made this incredibly difficult decision in haste or alone.  After months of deliberation and endless conversations with friends, family, our veterinarian, and cat behaviorists, I have reached the conclusion that holding onto Frankie is not in his best interest.  We have high hopes for Frankie’s Pica to disappear in the right environment now that the underlying medical problem is under control. Given the strong bond he has with Cleo, it would be cruel to separate them. Not only is Cleo the most wonderful pet one could wish for but also the most stabilizing element in Frankie’s life. They love and entertain each other, and they have never been apart. As much as it hurts me to let them go, I trust that seeing them thrive in a better environment will make everything worth it. I am certain that my loss will be someone else’s greatest gain.

The reason why I cannot satisfy Frankie’s needs is threefold.  First, he does not get along with our third cat, which is a constant source of stress.  Because of their animosity, we have to keep them separated at all times making coexistence dangerous and unpleasant as they get less attention from me and get worked up when they see or hear each other.  Second, my apartment can’t accommodate a comfortable Pica-friendly room for Frankie due to lack of space.  Every time I leave home and I need to confine him and Cleo for hours in our spare bedroom, which is small and dark, my heart breaks.  Third, keeping Frankie safe requires a perfectly tidy household which is something increasingly difficult to achieve as our baby grows older.  As a result of this set of unfortunate circumstances, my cats are unhappy, Pica-related accidents keep happening because of disarray, and I am constantly worried about Frankie hurting himself again.
